Tampa DUI Lawyer Warns Against Using Internet Breathalyzer Test in Place of Real Thing

A Tampa DUI attorney is in favor of a relatively low blood alcohol level or what’s commonly referred to as blood alcohol content (BAC) when it comes to prosecuting repeat offenders and those who cause deadly accidents.

In today’s high-tech world, there are devices that will stop a drunk driver before they are able to start their car and possibly cause deadly harm to themselves or other people.  A type of Breathalyzer is hooked up to the ignition switch and the driver must breathe into it and it must show a reading below the state’s BAC in order for the ignition to begin.

There is even an Internet website in which an individual can log on and enter the number of fluid ounces consumed, their weight and the hours consumed drinking along with the percentage of alcohol consumed – from a chart provided on the website – and press the button to find out what their approximate blood alcohol level is at that moment.  It is promoted as an online Breathalyzer or blood alcohol content calculator.

The website’s chart states that 12 fluid ounces of beer as an alcohol content of between 4-4.5%; four ounces of wine as an alcohol content of between 15-20% and a 1.5 ounce shot has between 30-50% alcohol content. Of course the website is no substitution for a true Breathalyzer test or could tell if a person has consumed enough alcohol to be driving or not.

According to a Tampa DUI lawyer, there are other state-of-the-art technical devices which can help deter drunk drivers before they step behind the wheel.  There are ankle bracelets which collect data through the skin and send it to the local police department or parole office as to the blood alcohol content of the wearer at any given time.

Many states have recently lowered their blood alcohol levels to 0.08 from 0.10 because many of the drunken driving accidents that happened in the past several years were registering people at BAC’s upwards of 0.14 and beyond.

A Tampa criminal defense lawyer, who also represents DUI offenders, believes that everyone deserves good representation, even those who are repeat offenders who make the system work for them by obtaining probation, promising to seek rehabilitation treatment and surrendering their drivers license while knowing full well they will still drive while under the influence.
