There are many reasons why several candle stores see an increase in sales in the spring time. Mostly because there is an increase to their sales because people are spring cleaning and this means redecorating and changing their décor to a fresh style. Candles bring freshness and color to any room and tie together different accessories nicely.

Other reasons for the run on candles in the spring time is because it is typically the bad weather season in many states and people want to be prepared for if or when the lights go out during a bad thunderstorm. People along the coastal areas can never be to sure what the earth will throw at them so they must always be prepared. Many people prepare an emergency kit for bad weather such as storms, tornados or if they live near the ocean, hurricanes and the box usually includes several candles and either lighters or waterproof matches.

People buy candles for their homes and their emergency kits from the local big box chain stores, drug stores and gift shops. They will purchase candles for their living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, bathrooms and just about any room in the house because candles are a great accessory to any room. There is an old myth that it is bad luck to have an unlit candle in the house when company comes – the candle does not have to be burning when the company arrives, it just needs to have been lit sometime before they arrive – it needs to have been burned or used. This makes for good luck according to the tale.
