Cancer Center Hospital Weighs in on Mammaplasty Debate

In a recent issue of the Cosmetic Surgery Times, there was an article that debated the need for breast tissue from mammaplasty, whether it is done for cosmetic reasons or for reconstructive reasons, should be sent to a pathology expert for breast cancer screening.
Many cancer center hospital and treatment facilities have weighed in on this issue and also believe that it is a good idea to take a sample of breast tissue from a mammaplasty to a pathology lab. There is no ‘across the board’ ruling on this issue but many think there should be. Everyone knows that early detection is the best defense against breast cancer and having a tissue sample is even better than a mammogram so why not use it.
